Writers Block

Ah, Writers Block… (Should say “Writer’s” but SEO won’t allow me to spell it correctly. Pretty ironic for someone writing a blog post about being a “writer.”)

For every person, and especially writers, the term “Writer’s Block” can have many different meanings. For me, it’s characterized by an inability to tap into my inner source, my voice, my spirit guide. It usually comes after a strong wind of non-stop writing. You know, the kind that just pours out… the kind where everything you write or say almost comes out in a rhyme? You feel this constant need to put pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard. And, you’re proud of what you have to say, how you say it and can translate your innermost thoughts in a way that others can understand. Hell, you can even make sales copy sound good, emotional even! Doesn’t matter how bland the topic, you can spice it up with just the right words…

Then, suddenly, you’re expressively paralyzed! Your inner source/voice/spirit guide is all tapped out. It’s as if she’s went into hiding. Or is sleeping. Or, even worse, you wonder if maybe she died. Continue reading

Most Endangered: Colorado River

Most Endangered: Colorado River

Colorado depends on it. Wyoming depends on it. Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, California and Nevada depend on it. A total of seven states and the entire Southwest region of the United States rely on the Colorado River for farming, energy and survival. Without water sourced from the Colorado River, how would we sustain ourselves?

It’s no wonder then that this morning’s announcement by D.C.-based organization American Rivers has left many distressed. The group ranked our Colorado River as the MOST endangered waterway in the United States. And, constant drought and increasing needs will only worsen the situation. What are the 36 million of us going to do? Continue reading

Pet-A-Palooza 2013: A Doggy Review

Pet-A-Palooza 2013: A Doggy Review

Radio station Mix 94.1 hosted their 14th Annual Pet-A-Palooza this past Saturday, April 13, 2013. Had it not been for my friend Candace’s invitation, it would have skipped right past me. Pretty much any opportunity to take our dogs out for a day of fun is one that Dave and I cannot resist. So, we didn’t. I brought my camera and took lots and lots of photos at the event, some of which you’ll see below.

One of my focuses for Vegas Evolve, the official lifestyle blog of Gina Mizzoni Photography, is to showcase various events that are aligned with my life philosophy and what I consider to be positive Vegas living. Since Pet-A-Palooza was EXACTLY that kind of an event, I of course had to cover it. However, with that said, I didn’t feel like I was the right “person” to cover it. So, I asked my dog, Harvey “Weinstein” Rosen to help me out… I’m pleased to say that Mr. Weinstein said “yes,” and, thus, is my very first guest blogger ever. (Thanks, Little Guy!) Here’s what he had to say about Las Vegas’ 14th Annual Pet-A-Palooza… Continue reading

A New Meaning of Easter

A New Meaning of Easter

Easter was always a little too religious of a holiday for me to partake in. At least as a busy working adult, with a boyfriend, hobbies, etc. etc… and no personal attachment to the more traditional aspects of it.

For my Vegas family, including my many aunts, uncles and cousins, and of course mom, dad and brother, there’s never been a holiday missed. From Labor Day to Christmas, Fourth of July to Halloween… our family has always known how to celebrate (and I mean really, REALLY celebrate), and that includes ME. But, for a variety of reasons, Easter was one of the few events that I gave myself permission to pass on if life was too “busy,” especially since it falls on a Sunday (the last day of the weekend).

That is until THIS past Easter. Continue reading

Earth is an Open Book

Earth is an Open Book

It’s incredible how much change our planet has endured over the millions of years it’s existed. Er, scratch that, billions of years! That’s right. Planet Earth is approximately 4.54 billion years old. That’s really, really old, right?

Older still is our Universe. 13.77 billion years old is the estimate of scientists. Dig any deeper than that and, if you’re like me, you start to feel your inner axis wobbling in a discombobulated manner. Not sure what I mean? Think about it for a second – what existed before existence? If you don’t feel weird and unhinged thinking about that then I question your sanity. (With all due respect, of course.) Continue reading

Bitch Fest

Lately (especially these days), I’ve been so tempted  to write a long bitch fest of a post. But, this is supposed to be a “professional” blog, and it wouldn’t be very “professional” to dump a crap-load of negativity out into the open.

But, you know what? It’s MY blog… and I call the shots! I’m going to dump out all of the negative feelings that are pulsating through my veins right now. Maybe if I release the negative feelings through words, they’ll all go away… Continue reading

Tender Loving Care

I’m a couple of days late on my March month review. Understandably, I have been dealing with my father’s sudden death, extra family bonding time, and playing catch-up at work; and, therefore, have had other priorities. However, this morning, I was able to carve out a little time to recap the last month. Continue reading

In Honor of Mark Mizzoni

In Honor of Mark Mizzoni

Below is the eulogy that I wrote, and then read at my dad’s service. Writing this and then reading it was so healing. After I wrote it, I couldn’t wait to get to the service to read it. It was as if my dad was communicating through me. It’s something I cannot explain. Grief is a weird thing. But, the strength and spiritual understanding that I’ve found during this difficult time has made this so much… ____________… I don’t even know what the right word would be. Let’s just say that I now understand life in a way that I never did before. (Yes, a long and difficult road is ahead of me, but I know that I’m going to be okay.) Continue reading

Non-Technical Review of the Nikon D800

Non-Technical Review of the Nikon D800

I started working on a technical review of the Nikon D800, but got side-tracked by thoughts about what I’d learned while renting it. I certainly have a lot to say about the technical aspects of the Nikon D800 and how the experience has affected my purchasing decision. However, my ADHD prompted some good insight into the “what did I learn” aspect of the rental… and that is what I want to focus THIS post on! Continue reading
