Pet-A-Palooza 2013: A Doggy Review
Radio station Mix 94.1 hosted their 14th Annual Pet-A-Palooza this past Saturday, April 13, 2013. Had it not been for my friend Candace’s invitation, it would have skipped right past me. Pretty much any opportunity to take our dogs out for a day of fun is one that Dave and I cannot resist. So, we didn’t. I brought my camera and took lots and lots of photos at the event, some of which you’ll see below.
One of my focuses for Vegas Evolve, the official lifestyle blog of Gina Mizzoni Photography, is to showcase various events that are aligned with my life philosophy and what I consider to be positive Vegas living. Since Pet-A-Palooza was EXACTLY that kind of an event, I of course had to cover it. However, with that said, I didn’t feel like I was the right “person” to cover it. So, I asked my dog, Harvey “Weinstein” Rosen to help me out… I’m pleased to say that Mr. Weinstein said “yes,” and, thus, is my very first guest blogger ever. (Thanks, Little Guy!) Here’s what he had to say about Las Vegas’ 14th Annual Pet-A-Palooza…
It isn’t every day that Las Vegas offers an event for pets. I had no idea that Mawm and Dad were gonna take us to the closest thing to Coachella that my sistah’ Sadie and I will evah’ experience. Did the sun get to be too much after a while? Yes, but I’ll get to that latah’..
First, let me start with the parkin’ situation. Mawm was concerned that we might have issues findin’ a spot. So, she decided that we should park in the McDonald’s parkin’ lot on the other side of Sunset. At that point, I had no freakin’ clue where the ‘rents were takin’ us. (After all, this is way outside of our Southwest neighborhood.) Mawm is pretty anal, so I highly doubted that she’d be takin’ us for a walk across a busy street. But, that’s exactly what we did!
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not the best leash-walkah’, especially in windy weathah’ like Saturday. Mawm and Dad have been workin’ with me a lot lately, so I’m gettin’ bettah’. But, I still have a long ways to go. It took quite some time for us to finally get across the street and to the venue, as we’re really followin’ the leash-walkin’ rules. (That is, if Mawm – or Dad – is walkin’ me and I start to pull, Mawm – or Dad – immediately stops.) It probably took about 25 minutes just for us to get inside of the gates of Pet-A-Palooza at Sunset Park. Still, we got to the event relatively early. It started at 10 AM and we arrived at about 10:50 AM.
Since I’m not a WORD-whore like my mom, I’m just gonna be brief about this…
1. My behavior – Once in the Pet-A-Palooza gates, I was great! Sadie, too. That made Mawm very happy.
2. Extreme sports – There were dudes (or dudettes?) runnin’ really cool obstacle courses. I know that there is no way in hell that Mawm will evah’ let me do tricks as cool as THAT, but I bet I’d take first place!!
3. Babes at the pool – Yep! Even us dogs get down with the Las Vegas pool scene. Pet-A-Palooza had some pools for us to stay nice and cool in. Sadie and I took a few sips of the water, but Mawm didn’t like that. Somethin’ about germs… ? Anyway, we went back to the “watering areas” as they called it, about six times throughout the event. This helped us stay nice and cool… which brings me to my next point.
4. Weather – The high for the day was around 80ish. If it was any hottah’ than that, we would have stayed indoors that day… or went to Grandma’s pool. Nonetheless, the sun was beamin’! Dad got nice and sunburned (he’s Jewish), and Mawm got a little golden (she’s Italian). Again, it was nice to have the waterin’ areas.
5. Food – At one point, the ‘rents got hungry and decided to grab a bite to eat. There was a rathah’ generous collection of food vendors. Mawm settled down with garlic fries with extra garlic (again, she’s Italian) and Dad with chicken fingah’s (that has absolutely nothin’ to do with him bein’ Jewish, but I figured I’d mention what he ate). Lucky for Sadie and I, and unbeknownst to my poor Mawm, we sat at a table that’s ground was covered in food. Immediately, Sadie and I dived in for the scraps of deliciousness. We were only down there for about three seconds when the ‘rents were able to pull us away. I think Sadie won the “who can catch more” contest. She usually does. What can I say? The girl’s got skills!!
6. Friends – We made lots of new friends, some of which were waitin’ for a forevah-home of their own. I hope they get adopted QUICK! In addition to meetin’ new friends, we ran into a few old ones. Sadie even caught up with an old boyfriend (he’s the American Eskimo with the rockstar hair)…
7. Media – My Aunt Candace and Cancer-survivor cousin Lollipup (she’s the cute lil’ malti-poo in the pink strollah’) were interviewed by KTNV ABC Channel 13 News. Unfortunately, Lollipup’s story was cut out of the final clip. But, still it was cool to see Aunt Candace interviewed. She’s a natural in front of the camera.
8. Music – Apparently, there were a few bands playin’, but I was so intrigued by everything that was goin’ on around me that I didn’t even notice. Seemed like the people on the grassy field were enjoyin’ it though.
We ended up bein’ at Pet-A-Palooza for like six hours. Was that a little ovah’kill? Yeah. Will I go back again next year? Of course! But probably just for a few hours. I hope Dad wears sunscreen next time, though. Anyway, it was a great time. Thanks so much for organizin’ it, Mix 94.1!
Oh yeah, and here’s a few piktshas Mawm took…
