After a two-week-long game of “Should I? Should I not?” I finally decided to just bite the bullet and replace my 50mm f/1.8 lens with a Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G (best lens ever).
Why the hesitation? Because I’m currently saving up for a few quite pricey lenses, each costing between $1,500 and $2,500. Yeah, EACH. Pricey, right?
So, I wasn’t sure if using some of that fund money to upgrade my main portrait lens would be worth it. (Spoiler Alert: It was totally worth it!)
WOW. What a difference! With this upgrade, my D800 body can realize it’s true potential. In terms of quality and value ($480ish), Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G truly is the best lens ever… and a great birthday gift to myself.
While I still dream of Nikon’s costly 35mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.4, 70 – 200mm f/2.8, and a fab wide-angle f/TBD, this bad boy will hold me over for a while…
At the time of writing this post (Sunday, 11/3), I’ve only had my new lens for a few days. I’ve shot with it once. But, by the time you read this post, I’ll be shooting with it all over Northern California (the trip is Dave’s birthday gift to me); and then, later, sharing some photos from my travels.
In the meantime, here are a few casual/silly/not serious pics from last Saturday’s fun family time/day out with the best lens ever – my new Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G. Each photo is straight from camera (no edits, touch-ups, etc.). (Translation: If these look crisp, just imagine what the well lit, composed and enhanced client photos will look like…)
