News: RAW Artist + Personal Update

If you regularly follow me on Facebook or Twitter, you probably know that I am getting ready for the RAW Artist event on Thursday, August 14, 2014 in Las Vegas. This will be my very first time exhibiting my work in a show setting, and I’m quite excited and honored, especially since there are so many amazingly talented people who will be participating that night. RAW is an amazing organization, located all over the globe, that helps bring exposure to small independent artists. For more information, check this out. If you would like to support my participation in this event, please visit www.rawartists.org/ginamizzoni and select “Buy a ticket for this artist.” Tickets are only $15 if purchased by August 7th. Otherwise, you may purchase General Admission tickets for $20 at the door on the day of the event.

I would like to give a BIG thank you to everyone who has RSVP’d for the event and purchased tickets. It was required that I sell 20 tickets to the show, and I surpassed that goal. SO thank you, thank you! I am really looking forward to sharing my work in this type of setting. All of my work showcased will be new and, with the exception of two pieces, never-before-seen. Each piece is something that speaks from the heart and represents the “here and now” of where I am at on this journey. I feel that it all really represents me… which can be difficult to achieve in a world of thousands and thousands of photographers. It’s easy to get sucked into doing what’s trendy, or comparing ourselves to other artists. I feel that in preparing all of this work for the show, I was able to avoid that trap, and stay true to what is “me.” Long story short, I met my objective for RAW, and the next step is getting to share it with you.

In other news, I’ve been home for a week now from my ten-day vacation to Spokane, Washington. The trip was much needed and really gave me a chance to spend time with family, including my mom and brother, and the Spokane family: Aunt Ceil, Uncle Raymond, Papa, Dominic and his darling family. “Papa” is my 95-year-old paternal grandfather, who spent the last decade living with my folks. But, then when my Dad passed away last year, it was decided by all that it would be best for Papa to live with Uncle Ray and Aunt Ceil in Washington. He moved up there in August 2013. At the time, it was hard to have yet another big change happen. But, I knew that it was in the best interest of my grandfather, so although I was a little sad, I gave my blessings. Nearly a year later, I finally made it up to Washington to visit and I must say that Papa’s relocation was a great thing. He has gained weight (which is good for the elderly), and he lives in this beautiful place with a loving family (not that his former residence wasn’t loving, but a grieving family isn’t exactly a happy environment).

Speaking of grieving, this year, I haven’t really shared too much about that journey. Last year, I spent a lot of time blogging about my grief. It’s what I needed at the time. But, this time around, it’s a deeper cut and a little more personal. (It’s less frequently on my mind, but when it is, it hurts a lot more.) Plus, my blog is more focused on my business than it’s ever been, so I try to not get too personal on here. What I would like to say, however, is that my ten-day vacation really gave me the opportunity to be around my dad, because I really got to talk about him… or at least be around things that reminded me of him… and that really helped.

So, now I am back to reality, which is a good reality. I have my participation in RAW to look forward to, some really awesome upcoming shoots, growing my business… and the learning/growing/experiencing that is life.

P.S. The photo above is NOT going to be featured in my RAW Artist exhibit. But, I came across it recently in my archives and it reminded me of a special moment in time.

Update: I just received word that Cashman Pro Photo Lab will be featuring me as their “Artist of the Month” for August. And, they’ll be showing three photographs from my upcoming exhibit at RAW Las Vegas artist event. I am so honored and excited. <3
