How many idle weekends do you spend laying around doing nothing? That can be really nice and well deserved, especially after a long week of work. But if enough of those weekends slip by, you may eventually realize that there is so much you might have missed out on. Like for example, day trip adventures within an hour’s drive from home.

Here in Nevada, we have many amazing places to explore. We’re a little more limited in the warmer months, but in the winter, spring and late fall, there’s plenty of options. Recently, the family and I headed out to Cold Creek and Corn Creek, two places we’d never been before. We took advantage of the beautiful spring weather AND met some amazing wild horses. It was quite the experience.

Cold Creak, Nevada features a small, spring-fed reservoir and is located in Newark Valley. Wild horses frequent the area as it provides them with a place to quench their thirst, find food and run free.

We didn’t explore much of Cold Creek, because our canine-kids, Harvey and Sadie, were going crazy. BUT I did have the opportunity to snap a few shots of the wild horses. Getting up close and personal with them was a pretty incredible experience, I must say. Here are a few highlights from the trip:

Not too far away is Corn Creek, Nevada, located at the Desert National Wildlife Refuge. Since we were already in the general area, we decided to stop by and check it out. Corn Creek is located 23 miles northwest of Las Vegas. The temperatures were a little too high for a long day of it, so we ended up only spending about an hour there. But, it was totally awesome nonetheless. Sadie and Harvey enjoyed themselves tremendously, as did Dave and I. Here are a few highlights:

Would you believe me if I told you that we fit all of that into less than three hours? I’m not kidding! See… you can enjoy a nice little day trip and STILL have plenty of time for lounging around at home.

We definitely plan to come back to Cold Creek and Corn Creek, Nevada to explore more of these two beautiful areas.
