Have you ever encountered a situation that had no explanation? Me, too. I’ve had a few, and the most recent happened this past Saturday night. A Las Vegas haunting? I’ll let YOU decide…
Chapter 1
I am home alone on a Saturday night. No one is there, except me and my four pets. I’ve just taken a hot bath and left the light on in the bathroom. Because I’ve had a long day and am not feeling very well, I decide to lay down. I’m a little bored, so I grab my phone and catch up on the day’s news.
That’s when I begin hearing sounds from downstairs. It has been an extremely windy day, so I assume the noise is just gusts from outside. No biggie. The dogs are barking like crazy, however, and it’s starting to annoy me.
A few minutes later, the noise becomes a racket, and is definitely coming from the first floor of the house. Normally, I would attribute any kind of ruckus to the cats. But, for whatever reason, I feel uneasy and am convinced that THIS is something else…
The scratching, scraping, movement I hear is soon accompanied by what sounds like someone walking around downstairs. “WTF?!” I think to myself. “Like seriously? Is this REALLY happening to me right now?”
I don’t know what to do. But, I soon find out that I am not the person you see in horror movies who goes and checks. Hell no. That’s not me. I’m the chick who stays put, frozen. Not just because I am scared, but because I don’t want to bring attention to myself – if there really is someone inside of the house. (Not sure if that’s smart or stupid. But, it is what it is.)
The intruder-esque sounds persist, and I continue to lay in my bed without a clue of what to do.
I begin envisioning my cold, limp body laying in a pool of blood. I can see the dogs trying to wake me up, and then getting distracted by the warm, gooey red liquid that was once inside of my veins. They’d lick it up, and maybe eventually start gnawing at my flesh. (Totally gory, I know. Sorry.) Dave would come home from the NIN concert to find the horrific scene.
Somehow, and I’m not sure how I did it, but SOMEHOW I am able to tell myself to just let it go. I figure if someone is in the house and they are going to come upstairs and attack me, there is absolutely nothing I can do. If I had a gun, I would grab that and defend myself. But, I don’t have one. “Why spend what could be the last few minutes of my life, scared?” I ask myself. I decide to just accept my fate, whatever that is.
So, I roll over and say, “Screw it!” And, pick up my phone and post a Facebook status about being home alone and not wanting to watch paranormal shows (which I normally would watch, with no hesitation).
The Facebook conversation totally distracts me from my fears, and the weird sounds from downstairs totally stop, including the annoying barking from Harvey and Sadie (my adorable pups).
Chapter 2
But, soon, they (Harvey and Sadie) run upstairs as if they are chasing something, and begin barking at the wall across from me. The same wall that the bathroom door is on.
There is nothing there. No cats. Nothing. So, what the hell are they barking at?
Now, if you have any common sense, you’ll agree with me that dogs barking at nothing is pretty freaking creepy. Especially dogs who don’t normally bark at nothing. And, they aren’t just barking. They are going crazy.
At this point, I feel totally relieved that there isn’t an intruder in the house. Because if there was, the dogs would be downstairs barking at it. But what are they barking at right now?
Chapter 3
The barking stops. Harvey climbs into bed with me. And Sadie crawls under the bed, her favorite sleeping spot. I go back to Facebook (a lame way to spend a Saturday night, I know. But I was feeling really crappy.)
Remember how I told you earlier that I’d left the light on in the bathroom? Well, here’s where the good part comes in…
A minute after the pups are settled, the light in the bathroom turns off. Since I am already in a spooked state-of-mind, it’s pretty reasonable that this just fuels my fear.
Five minutes later the light turns back on… with a loud clicking sound, as if someone had flipped the switch.
Then ten minutes later the light turns back off.
Ten minutes later the light turns back on… and the bathroom door, which is opened up a crack, opens wider and Sadie (who had at some point gone in there) comes walking in the bedroom all smiley, with her tongue hanging out. (You should have seen my face when the door started opening, and then my relief when I realized it was Sadie.)
Then, fiveish minutes later the light turns back off.
And, this goes on about eight different times total.
So what was it?
We had a handyman come over and take a look. There is no explanation. The bulb was fine. The switch was fine. He took everything apart and tested it all.
Being super into the paranormal, you may be surprised to know that I’m pretty skeptical. Sure, I enjoy watching scary movies, going ghost hunting, and reading about hauntings. But, do I really believe in it? I don’t know. I’ve had a few instances in my life that were bizarre, and I can’t find an explanation for. But, this? This is the most activity I’ve ever witnessed.
Assuming it was the latter, I will say that this spirit/entity/energy was friendly. I didn’t feel threatened when the stuff was going on in the bedroom.
If it ever happens again, I’ll do as a friend suggested and say “Hi.” Actually, last night, there was some weird stuff going on, and I did say “hello.” That might have been a dream though. BUT, the Saturday night incident DEFINITELY happened.
