A Love Story

A Love Story

Six years ago today, a free-spirited feminist went on a date with her nerdy and hip “platonic” pal. After over two years of Myspace friendship and six months of hanging out as “just friends,” Jewish Dave had finally asked Gina-Bo-Beena out on a date. The date was planned by cool Jewish Dave, who’d intended on taking Gina-Bo-Beena to a Thai restaurant. The Thai restaurant was closed. So, they went to The Bootlegger Bistro Las Vegas, an Italian restaurant, located right next door to the other place.

JD was a little frustrated because he didn’t want to take GB to a total cliché. He wanted to take her somewhere hip, somewhere cool, like a Thai restaurant. (GB eventually discovered that she didn’t like Thai food anyway.) But, The Bootlegger ended up being a perfect spot for a soon-to-be perfect couple. Warm lighting, good food, wine…

After dining, JD took GB to what would be the coolest little bar she’d ever visited (and eventually close not too long after). The place was called “The Art Bar.” There was a nerdy local band playing geeky-electronic dance music. It was perfect. But, the best spot in the bar wasn’t the inside, it was the outdoor patio. White lights, a white-painted bench-swing, a few plants here and there, and – if my memory serves me right – a gazebo as well… it was so OLD Vegas. It was awesome. It was romantic. We sat on the swing and giggled. He held my hand.

Next, it was GB’s turn to chime-in! “Why don’t we go to the downtown graveyard?” GB asked with much enthusiasm. (Yes, deep down inside, GB was a little goth.) “Umm… Sure,” answered JD, not skipping a beat, regardless of how weird that might have sounded to a normal, nice dude…

After arriving at the graveyard, they decided to get out of the car. It was a nice night. There was a light breeze. It was probably about 60 degrees outside (GB’s FAVORITE temperature). JD stood behind GB and wrapped his arms around her. Then about a minute later, JD turned GB around and he kissed her. It was the most amazing kiss GB had ever known. The kind with fireworks. As cheesy as that may sound to all of you reading this, it’s true. And, it was love – LOVE that GB had only dreamed of.

Six years later, GB and JD are living happily-ever-after. Life can be frustrating at times, and as we’ve grown through the years, we’ve both had a few existential crises. But our relationship has remained strong and intact. We’ve grown up together. We’re growing together.

David Rosen (Jewish Dave), I love you from the depths of my heart to the infinity of my soul. You are my BFF and the best thing that ever happened to me. I can’t imagine my life without YOU. I look forward to growing old with you. Together forever!
