Newborn photography is a very specialized niche, and documents a once-in-a-lifetime moment in a child’s life. Those early days of bonding are unlike anything else, and a time when a parent knows their life will never be the same again. When it comes to finding the right photographer to capture their newborn, parents need a professional who understands the needs of a tiny infant… When my friend Celeste contacted me about taking photos of her soon-to-be baby, Kelsey, I didn’t know much about this type of photography, and was a little nervous. She assured me that she felt confident that I could do it. With a lot of research, preparation and special care, my first newborn photo shoot turned out to be a success. (In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I hope others looking for a Las Vegas photographer contact me for their newborn shoot.)

I was honored to have the opportunity to photograph Kelsey in her early days, and her loving mom and dad (Celeste and Pablo) as they celebrated their new chapter of parenthood. The family’s home is an ideal location for this type of shoot. But, because both parents are currently residing in Guadalajara, Mexico, where they attend Medical School, we had to find another option – so, Grandma’s house it was! I was very grateful that she allowed us to use her home for the shoot, and fulfilled my request to turn the temperature to 80 degrees (yes, warm temps are a must to get those sleepy shots). It was quite sweltering, but everyone graciously cooperated and no one complained. By the end of the shoot, the adults were ready for the air conditioner and we’d gotten the classic shots we needed. Woo hoo!

During the planning process, I had Celeste and Pablo complete a Client Questionnaire Form, which is something I request all clients do. These forms provide me with the details I need to deliver a custom photo shoot, as well as be able to address the unique needs and desires of each client. Pablo was just as involved in completing the form as Celeste. One of his requests was to include a gift he would be giving his soon-to-be-daughter: a little rabbit.

The photographs that resulted from our collaboration and a long, but enjoyable afternoon of shooting were precious. Kelsey was such a sweet little baby and a complete natural in front of the camera. I am so honored that Celeste chose me for her newborn photography needs, and trusted me to work with her tiny little infant. It was an amazing experience! I wish Celeste, Pablo and baby Kelsey a lifetime of happiness and love.
